I’ve been asked about this subject by a few expecting mamas lately that I wanted to go ahead and write up a little post from my research.
Did you know that chiropractic care during pregnancy helps to restore the balance of the pelvic muscles and ligaments which adds structure to the uterus. Adjustments during pregnancy help to ensure the uterus is functioning at its maximum potential by reducing nervous system interference caused by misaligned verabrae. A well functioning nervous system is key for a mother to easily combat the many hurdles of pregnancy. There is no need to just accept the discomforts of pregnancy when there are options.
Let’s break down some reasons to receive chiropractic care during pregnancy.
1. Back Pain Relief
Chiropractic care can help prevent and relieve back pain associated with pregnancy. Pregnancy is no easy feat for the skeletal structure, that baby is growing and getting heavier! The weight of your sweet and growing baby changes your posture and spinal curvature. No need to fret, chiropractic care can help correct posture problems and help your spine keep its intended curve.
2. Pregnancy Symptoms
Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms that chiropractic care can help ease. It doesn’t work for all women but adjustments is one way to try to get some relief from morning sickness. Sometimes nausea and vomiting is due in part to nerves pinched by out-of-place vertebrae, an adjustment will help remedy the problem. Other symptoms that chiropractic care and reduce are heartburn, constipation and frequent urination to name a few.
3. Systems
Chiropractic care is meant to allow the body to heal itself by removing obstructions to the nerves in the spinal column. The brain and body communicate through nerves and when they are obstructed or blocked they can’t do so. When the nerves communicate freely the body is able to work as it was designed. Chiropractic care also helps to ensure a healthy immune system for mom and baby.
4. Baby Positioning
Adjustments can help position your sweet baby correctly for birth. If the hips and lower spine are out of place this can cause baby to not be in the optimal position for birth. By ensuring that there are no vertebrae out of place your body prepares your little one to get into the proper position.
5. Labor and Birth
Adjustments can help shorten labor and make the birth process easier on your body. If the the mother’s spine and hips are in proper alignment labor and birth can progress more easily and possibly take less time. The nerves and muscles fall into this as well. There is research to show that chiropractic care reduces labor time which will make for an easier and safer delivery.
